About

Listed as historic monuments in 1910, the Gargas caves have yielded numerous archaeological treasures. They were inhabited by Cro-Magnon tribes, hunter-gatherers from the Gravettian period.

Visits by appointment only. Make sure you wrap up warm!

But the most striking evidence of our prehistoric ancestors is found in the diversity and richness of the images left on the cave walls. At Gargas, you can see animal engravings and paintings, geometric patterns, sexual symbols and, above all, hand stencils.

Nestploria is the digital interpretation centre for the Gargas caves. This museum space, fully equipped with digital displays, allows you to expand your knowledge and complement your guided tour of the caves. You can explore Nestploria at your own pace and, as you wish, expand your knowledge of Gargas and contemporary prehistory through the use of new technologies (touchscreens, a large digital table, atmospheric or educational films, etc.)

New - The Tastes & Flavors Guide

While eating well without breaking the bank is a major concern for our fellow citizens, short supply chains are thriving in Comminges. Now more than ever, there has been a growing need for a guide that lists producers, restaurateurs, and food professionals who sell their creations directly to consumers and work with local products in an ethical manner.

From Farm to Table with Complete Transparency: The Charter

The Charter of Commitment was developed by and for professionals in partnership with the Comminges-Pyrénées Tourism Office. It highlights producers from all fields and chefs who work according to best practices, promote Comminges products, and share their respective expertise.

The guide “Goûts et Saveurs en Comminges” is not just a directory of businesses. It is much more than that. As you turn the pages, you’ll also find recipes, profiles, and interviews.
