Charles Balayer is a composer (Robert Martin and Delatour France) and titular organist of the historic Stoltz organ in the Collégiale Saint Martin in Brive.
Born in 1957, Charles Balayer studied organ and organ improvisation, harmony, counterpoint, fugue, analysis, accompaniment, chamber music and jazz at the Toulouse Conservatoire. He was awarded the 'médaille d'or' and 'prix de perfectionnement' in organ and organ improvisation, the 'médaille d'or' in harmony, the 'médaille d'argent' in musical analysis, and the 'prix d'honneur' for all his studies.
His work as a jazz man has led him to play in various concerts and accompany many French musicians.
In 1986 he founded the "Choeur Artie Shaw" (jazz vocal big-band), in which he also plays piano, composes and arranges.
He is also a member of the "Chez Barbaro" quartet (saxophone, guitar, drums and Hammond organ).
Charles Balayer also teaches classical organ, organ improvisation and jazz at the Conservatoire de Musique et Danse de Brive, the first national music school in France to set up a Hammond organ class. He is also a composer (published by Robert Martin and Delatour France) and titular organist of the historic Stoltz organ in the Collégiale Saint Martin in Brive.
