About
Irish session: the Sandaran café is turning into a pub for one night only.
An Irish session is when a few musicians get together in a pub and start playing tunes from the traditional repertoire. Anyone who fancies it can start a tune spontaneously. Often, other musicians join in, playing the tunes they know or trying to pick them up on the spot (a common way of learning traditional music). So everyone plays together, regardless of skill level, and the sound builds in intensity. The pub’s already warm atmosphere is taken up a few notches and those present start singing, dancing or clapping their hands to the rhythm of traditional instruments: the fiddle (violin), mandolin, uilleann pipes (bagpipes), bodhrán (percussion), whistle (flutes),… and plenty of other instruments that blend with this music made up of jigs, reels and frenzied polkas, enchanting ballads or drinking songs to sing along to
A musical journey to the heart of Ireland.
No booking required, free entry.
