The story of a working-class son who became an artist

In this show, Lilian Derruau links his experiences as a ‘working-class lad’ to the ideas of the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. Rather than merely recounting memories of his early childhood, he paints a picture of working-class France in the 1970s in a script where earthy humour and self-deprecation go hand in hand. Long known as a comedian-singer under the name Wally, we see him here in a completely different light: as a sociological storyteller, but in his own unique way – one that provokes laughter with a touch of poetry and a wealth of emotion. A time of carefree youth, followed by the realisation of a form of social predestination from which it is very difficult to escape.
