82 – LES PALOMBIÈRES

Steps

Step 1

Park your car in the car park on your right, heading towards the lake. There is an information board and a signpost indicating the start of the Tour des Frontignes and Chemin des Palombières trails.

Step 2

Start your walk along the Escarerous path.

Step 3

Go up the latter and at the intersection continue straight ahead (signposted Col des Ares).

Step 4

Continue uphill until you reach the Col des Ares road. Turn left, cross the road and immediately turn right into the woods (yellow markings).

Step 5

Follow the yellow markings and when you reach the ridge coming from the Col des Ares, turn right.

Step 6

When you reach a bump, turn right (yellow markings in place) – Leave the track, which continues straight ahead.

Step 7

The climb continues steeply for a short while, then you arrive at the ridge where you will see the first palombières (hunting hides).

Step 8

Follow the ridge line to a new junction, turn left (yellow markings).

Step 9

You will pass a small hut on the right.

Step 10

You will arrive at the highest point of your hike, Juan Malaut (1,014 m).

Step 11

Start the descent and in just a few minutes you'll reach the Col du Hô.

Step 12

At the pass, take the path on the right with a sign for Antichan.

Step 13

Descend until you reach the Col des Ares road.

Step 14

Follow the road towards the village of Antichan.

Step 15

Turn right onto the path marked ""voie gallo romaine"" and follow it to the church, then continue straight ahead.

Step 16

Pass the castle and cross the village until you reach the Col des Ares road.

Step 17

Cross the road and continue straight ahead, passing a watering hole and then continuing straight ahead on the path.

Step 18

You'll find the path back where you started. Turn left and return to your vehicle.
