CYCL – MONTÉE DU COL DES ARES DEPUIS FRONSAC

Steps

Step 1

Set off from Fronsac, heading towards Antichan de Frontignes via the D618; the gradient is very gentle for 1 km.

Step 2

The gradient then steepens slightly, levelling off at around 4 per cent to 5 per cent as the road winds through a deciduous forest. The road surface is generally in good condition and the bends are wide, making for a very smooth ride.

Step 3

Near the village of Antichan de Frontignes, a wide, scenic bend offers a lovely view of the valley.

Step 4

The road continues through the forest once more, and this is where the most challenging part of the climb begins. After a final series of hairpin bends, the gradient eases off over the last 500 metres.
