About

Discover this museum of Prehistory where all lovers of archaeological and cultural discoveries can discover the first anatomically modern men who lived in Europe.

The Musée de l'Aurignacien is a prehistory museum that invites aficionados to archaeological and cultural discoveries. The Aurignacians were the first anatomically modern humans who lived in Europe approximately 36,000 years ago.

Archaeological traces of the lives of these ancient peoples are taken from the digs of the site of Aurignac and other emblematic prehistoric sites to provide the central theme of the museographic presentation. Films, illustrations, temporary exhibitions and activities for all ages offer a great number of approaches to understanding prehistory. Ideally accessible, designed to appeal to all ages and audiences, this museum is also a place where debates and discussions are held, probing into the great questions of Man’s origins and addressing the latest scientific discoveries. Guided tours are available for individuals, groups, school groups and even toddlers (1 to 3 years of age).

New - The Tastes & Flavors Guide

While eating well without breaking the bank is a major concern for our fellow citizens, short supply chains are thriving in Comminges. Now more than ever, there has been a growing need for a guide that lists producers, restaurateurs, and food professionals who sell their creations directly to consumers and work with local products in an ethical manner.

From Farm to Table with Complete Transparency: The Charter

The Charter of Commitment was developed by and for professionals in partnership with the Comminges-Pyrénées Tourism Office. It highlights producers from all fields and chefs who work according to best practices, promote Comminges products, and share their respective expertise.

The guide “Goûts et Saveurs en Comminges” is not just a directory of businesses. It is much more than that. As you turn the pages, you’ll also find recipes, profiles, and interviews.
