About
Listed and designated a Historic Monument.
The 18th-century Château Lafont.
The façade was listed in 1927.
The grand staircase was listed in 1931.
The building is aligned with the even-numbered side of the Allées d'Etigny, but is not adjoined on either side. Built on a plan similar to that of a square, it has a slate pavilion roof. The corners on the driveway side are marked by harled quoins.
The facade has five bays, the surrounds of which are made of red Signac marble. Despite the fact that they are inverted, the windows are large and the wooden joinery features small panes. The first floor has three 3-sloped hipped dormers (known as capucines), and the second has two 2-sloped dormers (known as jacobines), the gable end of which is decorated with a cut-out wooden motif that can be seen on all sides of the building.
Nasturtium dormers are also found on all sides of the roof, but have sometimes been replaced by large Jacobean dormers. The later elevation continues the division into five bays, but the bays are smaller than on the façade and their surrounds are covered in white rendering. The central bay has a difference in level as it corresponds to the location of the staircase. The staircase occupies the central bay of the building and the rooms are distributed on either side.
