A cromlech is a prehistoric megalithic monument consisting of an alignment of upright monoliths (menhirs), forming a circle of standing stones, usually circular in shape.

A cromlech is a megalithic enclosure, a type of prehistoric monument made up of upright stones arranged in a variable shape (circular, rectangular or other), delimiting an area. These constructions, dating from the Neolithic period in Europe, are much less common than dolmens or menhirs, but they bear witness to complex cultural and perhaps funerary or cultic practices. Their often-mentioned circular shape is in fact rare, and their exact function is still poorly understood by archaeologists.
