In the heart of the village of Antichan-de-Frontignes, the Church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption is one of the main features of the commune’s built heritage. Built in the 16th century, it underwent major alterations during the second half of the 19th century, whilst retaining the traditional character typical of rural churches in the Comminges region.
Its simple and elegant architecture blends perfectly into the mountainous landscape. The building features a single nave extended by a chancel, a bell wall characteristic of the Pyrenean valleys, and masonry made from local stone, which bears witness to the craftsmanship of the builders of the time.
Inside, the church houses a rich collection of religious furnishings. Several items are listed as Historic Monuments, including ancient statues, carved altarpieces and various liturgical objects that illustrate the village’s religious fervour and artistic heritage.
