About

Romanesque basilica

Situated near the village of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, set apart in the countryside, this charming Romanesque church, completed in the 12th century, was built close to one of the cemeteries of the ancient Roman town of Lugdunum.

Consequently, its walls contain numerous reused Roman-era materials, mainly of funerary origin.

It features a beautiful carved portal and a 14th-century square bell tower.

Situated on several routes to Santiago de Compostela (the Chemin du Piémont and the Via Garona), the Basilica of Saint-Just has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998 as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela.

A short walk of a few hundred metres will take you to a viewpoint offering a panoramic view of both the Basilica of Saint-Just and Sainte-Marie Cathedral.
