About
To mark the International Year of Pastoralism and Pastures, Pierre Rouch and Elisabeth Amalric will take us on a journey through the Pyrenees.
From the shepherd in the mountains to the troubadour at the lord’s court, from the sacred to the secular, oboes and bagpipes have been a part of our ancestral societies. An exploration of the Pyrenean heritage and its repertoire reveals a great diversity of oboes and bagpipes native to this mountain range. What were the roles, statuses and functions of these musicians?
Pierre Rouch, researcher and maker of oboes and bagpipes, will introduce you to the ethnological diversity and identity of the Pyrenean instrumental tradition through the various types of wind instruments.
Through this concert, he will take you on a musical journey across the Pyrenees, from the Basque Country to Catalonia, to discover traditional instruments.
Accompanied by the organ of the Basilica of Saint-Just, either as an ensemble or in solo performances, Elisabeth Amalric and Pierre Rouch will perform a repertoire rich in musical colour, echoing 18th-century organ pieces by Rameau, Dandrieu and Corrette, inspired by traditional shepherds’ music.
