About

Catinou and Jacouti are two iconic figures in Occitan popular culture, who were particularly well known in the Toulouse region during the 20th century.

They were created by Charles Mouly in the 1940s: Catinou appeared first, before being joined by Jacouti, her husband. These two colourful and comical fictional characters humorously embody the everyday, rural life of Occitanie.

Patrick Lasseube, founding president of the Catinou and Jacouti Association, honorary founding president of the National Association of Communes with Humorous Names and honorary mayor of Saint-Lys, works to keep their memory alive. Even today, Catinou and Jacouti are celebrated every first Saturday in October in Saint-Lys, through a festival that keeps this popular Occitan heritage alive.
