2026 has been designated the ‘International Year of Transhumance and Pastoral Herders’. To mark the occasion, the Archives branch is organising a programme celebrating shepherds and their livestock, transhumance, pasture management, and the traditions and expertise of our region!

With this screening, accompanied by commentary from various speakers, we invite you on a journey through time via a selection of images and documents. We’ll explore the Pyrenees, from one summer pasture to the next, following in the footsteps of the herds. An integral part of this living heritage, the language will also take centre stage as we discover Gascon words associated with pastoralism.

Hosted by Isabelle Sourroubille (cultural mediator), Pascal Bergougnan (responsible for promoting the Occitan language and culture for the Departmental Council) and Patrick Mola (shepherd).
